This past Friday, Nov. 16th, was my 21st birthday. As I simply illustrated above…nothing has changed. However, now I’m viewed as a man responsible enough to legally drink in the USA! Most other country’s had already trusted me to drink for years now…but I knew America would come around some day;)
Over the weekend I ran around to a few different places enjoying my new found freedom, but today I decided to make my own birthday cocktail that ironically was alcohol free since I had to go into work tonight. BUT, here is the recipe with alcohol so you are able to try it yourself. It tastes WONDERFUL, and an ounce or two of vodka would have only made it better.
I was in the mode for a smoothie, so this is what I came up with:
Pineapple Pomegranate Mint Martini – (Call it a 21st if you will…I’m working on a better name)
The Recipe –
Put all the following ingredients into a blender:
Apple Juice: 1 cup
Pineapple: 1 1/2 cups (medium size chunks)
Pomegranate: 1 (deseed with spoon, only use seeds)
Mint: 15 grams (more leaves than stems)
Lemon: 1 oz
Ice: 2 cups
Stevia: 1/2 teaspoon
Combine all ingredients and blend well.
Above is the smoothie that you get. It tastes like summer at the beach…almost forgot I was in 40 degree cloudy Boston.
FOR THE MARTINI THOUGH…
1) Take this smoothie and strain it though cheese cloth into a measuring cup (do it in small batches so that you can squeeze the juice though through cloth and get rid of all the pulp).
2) Fill your shaker with ice and put 3 oz of the juice with 2oz of vodka (makes one martini, multiply accordingly)
3) Shake for about 20 seconds, pour into your martini glass and garnish it with either mint or a slice of ginger if you have any…
The measurments above yields approximately 4 1/2 cups of the smoothie, and about 2.5 cups of juice…soooo thats enough juice to make about 13 martini’s.
